Brief

Project Type: Logo Design ● Graphic Design ● Illustration ● Art Direction

A publishing company is creating an imprint for 3 books: The Baron In The Trees, Haroun and the Sea of Stories, and Gulliver’s Travels. I was tasked with creating a concept and logo that ties these 3 books together as well as a cover design for each.

The Imprint

After taking a look at the thematic parallels between these 3 book, I determined the unifying thread to be that each story is a satire of the real world. Through the use of fiction as the medium, the author transports the reader into a world that mirrors their own as a way of pointing out flaws in reality. Using this analysis, I settled on Mirror as the title for the imprint.

The Book Covers

Each of these books presents their stories in a very linear manner that takes the form of a series of events. I set up the book covers in a way that showcased the sequenced nature of these books through a series of blocks each with an image that represents a major event in the book. Additionally, to further emphasize the unifying Mirror theme, I chose a reflective mylar material to be used on the spine of each book.
